Bicycle Friendly Community

Kent is working to become a bicycle friendly community! Read below for safety tips and videos to see how you can keep our community bike friendly and stay safe.

Bike Safety

According to the League of American Bicyclists, follow these rules when riding your bike

  • Every bike rider should always wear a helmet.
  •  When riding on the street, always ride on the right
  • Make sure you are visible by wearing bright clothing and/or reflective markings
  • Signal well before the intersection; make sure you are in proper lane position
  • People on bikes, just like motorists, must obey all traffic control devices

League of American Bicyclists - Bicycle Friendly America

The League’s Bicycle Friendly America (BFA) program provides a roadmap, hands-on assistance and recognition for states, communities, universities and businesses. The BFA program is a tool for states, communities, business and universities to make bicycling a real transportation and recreation option for all people.

The Bicycle Friendly Community award process considers a range of elements, including a community’s efforts to educate children and adults about how to bike, plan and build bike infrastructure, evaluate success towards getting more people on bikes, and encourage road safety all through the lens of equity.

Each of the five levels of the Bicycle Friendly Community award – diamond, platinum, gold, silver and bronze, plus an honorable mention category – provide a clear path for communities to continuously improve.

Kent has been awarded with Honorable Mention status. Kent is proud of this accomplishment and we are striving to make improvements to earn an even higher award in the future.
