Citizen Police Academy

The Kent Police Department is pleased to offer the Kent community the opportunity to participate in the Citizen Police Academy (CPA). The Citizen Police Academy offers a chance for members of the Kent area to see first hand what police officers do and experience. In addition, it offers attendees an opportunity to make a unique connection with the Kent Police Department and its members.

Classes

The Citizen Police Academy involves eleven weekly classes and a graduation night. Each four-hour class is held at the Kent Police Department. Attendees learn about:

  • Case law
  • Court processes
  • Crime preventionCPA Cover Pic (JPG)
  • Criminal investigations
  • Criminal law
  • Drunk and drugged driving enforcement
  • Parking and traffic enforcement
  • Specialized police functions
  • Use of force

Attendees will also be afforded the opportunity to experience officer "ride-alongs" and police equipment. This is a rare chance for area residents to see the difference between television and the reality of police work.
